Undergraduate program - admissions

Via UPCAT

The vast majority of the B.Sc. C.S. students join the program via the University of the Philippines College Admissions Test (more details can be found here).

Entry to the program is generally very competitive, so potential examinees may want to take that into account as they indicate program choices when applying.

Note that currently, the B.Sc. C.S. program does NOT require freshmen to be graduates of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand in senior high school, although the curriculum is designed for taking in STEM strand graduates. Senior high school graduates not coming from the STEM strand may be required to take up additional courses (specifically mathematics courses).

Shifting and transferring

The Department admits a limited number of shiftees (from within UP Diliman) and transferees (from outside UP Diliman) every year. The admission period is every first semester. The DCS utilizes an assessment exam for its shiftee/transferee admissions process. Certain requirements must be met by applicants before being allowed to take the assessment exam. The requirements are as follows -

S1 (Shiftees within the College)

  • GWA of 2.0 or better, OR average of 1.75 or better from all of his/her Math subjects
  • Must have not obtained a grade of 5.0, unremoved 4.0 and/or unresolved INC in ANY course/subject
  • Completed at least 30 academic units
  • True Copy of Grades (TCG) or CRS printout of grades

S2 (Shiftees within UP Diliman)

  • GWA of 2.0 or better, OR average of 1.75 or better from all of his/her Math subjects
  • Must have not obtained a grade of 5.0, unremoved 4.0 and/or unresolved INC in ANY course/subject
  • Completed at least 30 academic units
  • True Copy of Grades (TCG)

T1 ( Transferees from other UP Units)

  • GWA of 1.75 or better, OR average of 1.5 or better from ALL of his/her Math subjects
  • Must have not obtained a grade of 5.0, unremoved 4.0 and/or unresolved INC in ANY course/subject
  • Completed at least 30 academic units
  • True Copy of Grades (TCG)
  • Letter to the department Chairman stating the reason for transferring and contact details

T2 ( Transferees from other schools/universities) and second degree

  • GWA of 1.75 or better, OR average of 1.5 or better from ALL of his/her Math subjects
  • Must have not obtained a grade of 5.0, unremoved 4.0 and/or unresolved INC (or equivalents in the grading scale of UP) in ANY course/subject
  • Completed at least 30 academic units but not more than four full semesters worth of academics units
  • Official Transcript of Records (OTR)
  • Letter to the department Chairman stating the reason for transferring and contact details

Again, meeting the aforementioned requirements qualifies the applicant to take the assessment exam. It does not yet qualify the applicant for admission to the program.
